The beginning of the year is the perfect time to get back on track with your healthy eating and lifestyle habits. We put together a few tips and recipes to help you on your way to a happy and healthy 2019.

    Healthy Lifestyle Healthy Eating Smoothie

    1. Let's start with a healthy juice recipe you can make with our horizontal or vertical slow juicers from BioChef.

Since juice doesn’t have fibre, it doesn’t have the same digestion needs as regular food. The nutrients in a juice are more easily absorbed by your body.

The New Year Detox Juice Recipe:

    • 2 lemons, peeled and halved
    • 4 apples, quartered
    • 2 cucumbers, halved
    • 1 cup filtered water/ice cubes
Alternate soft and hard fruit and veg through your juicer and adjust pulp to taste. Add the water and stir just before serving.

To help you with your healthy eating goals, the BioChef Atlas Pro Whole Slow Juicer features a specifically designed wide feeding chute which allows you to easily juice whole fruits and vegetables with minimal preparation. 5 Easy Ideas for Your Blender

The main reason for buying a blender is usually to make smoothies. And a pretty good reason it is: there are infinite combinations of fruit and vegetables that will keep you healthy and energized for years to come.

But since we’re spending the money anyway, what else can we do with a blender?

    1-  Guacamole

Nothing can be more dramatic than chopping up onions. Forget all about it by putting all the ingredients in your blender (tomato, onions, avocado, and coriander) and start blending on low speed. The longer you leave it on, the smoother your guac will get. Don’t forget to finish it off with some salt and lime juice!

    2-  Hummus

Another classic cocktail dip. Hummus is very easy to make in the blender, you just need to mix the chickpeas with garlic, lemon juice and sesame oil. But what makes it really interesting is to make different flavored hummus’: you can use beetroot, avocado, mushroom, red pepper… use your imagination and experiment! It will taste delicious and look great on the table.

    3- Almond Flour

This is a great alternative to hard to find and costly gluten-free flours. You can make your own nut flour at home. Blend almonds using the pulse function for control. But be careful to not leave it too long, it will become butter!

    4- Veggie Burgers

Veggie burgers are delicious- but also a lot of work to make from scratch. Use the blender for the perfect blend of veggies, legumes and spices in no-time. And no need to get your hands dirty either!

    5- Peanut Butter

Who doesn’t love peanut butter? The problem is: you don’t know what else comes included with the peanuts, usually a lot of chemicals you don’t really

Jerky is an age-old, popular snack made from lean pieces of meat. It is dehydrated to slowly remove all of the water content, making it a lightweight and portable food which lasts for up to 2- 3 months! It’s lengthy shelf life makes it a winning snack amongst hikers, cyclists, travellers or anyone that’s on the go.

There is no science behind making any meat jerky in a food dehydrator, all you have to do is know what flavours you like, use fresh and nutritious ingredients and you can be assured of a healthy treat that can be eaten at any time.

    The Drying Basics

Before you get stuck in, it is important to remember the following useful tips during each step of the dehydration process:

    • The leaner the meat, the better the taste. Not only that, fatty meats will interfere with the drying times and will become rancid very quickly; this means that your jerky will have a very short shelf-life
    • The thicker you slice your meat the longer it will take to dehydrate
    • Keep each strip of meat as uniform

  8. Food Dehydrator Yoghurt Recipe

    Food Dehydrator Yoghurt Recipe

Making yoghurt at home is super easy with the use of a food dehydrator! Rich in protein, calcium and probiotics; yoghurt is often thought of as a ‘superfood’ due to its ability to reduce fat (due to its high calcium content) and improve digestion - we can thank the good bacteria for that.

Freshly-made yoghurt is filled with countless numbers of beneficial bacteria that will help aid digestion and the probiotics will assist in boosting your immune system. Other health benefits from fresh yogurt include the reduction of high blood pressure, heart health, decreased bloating, as well as relief of both constipation and diarrhea and other stomach disorders.

The secret to good yoghurt is that it contains live cultures. There are four major strains of bacteria to look for: L. acidophilus, L. bulgaricus, S. thermophilus, and bifidobacteria.

  9. Homemade Fruit Roll Up Recipes

    Homemade Fruit Roll Up Recipes

A fruit leather or fruit roll up is such a simple, easy and healthy snack to have in the pantry for times when you’re craving something a little sweet but want to stay away from processed store bought sweets.

    Fruit roll ups

What is a fruit leather or fruit roll up? It’s ultimately whole blended fruit which is poured into a thin layer and then dried out. You can think of it like making a fruit smoothie and drying it out. Fruit leathers are commonly made up of a mixture of fruits that are blended together, however other ingredients can be added to enhance flavours and make unique combinations such as yoghurt (to give the roll ups a creamy texture) and spices such as cinnamon (to add a kick of flavour and difference to the everyday fruit roll up recipe).

The best tools to have when making fruit roll ups are a good quality blender and a food dehydrator. A blender will allow you to whip the ingredients together in just a few moments and give you a beautiful smooth texture. Also, by using a blender there is no need to stew the fruits over a stove prior to straining or pureeing. You simply put the raw ingredients into a blender and the work is done for you. These ‘raw’ fruits retain their living enzymes and nutrients as they have not been exposed to heat through the often lengthy ‘stewing’ process.

The food dehydrator replaces an oven in the fruit roll up making process. A food dehydrator usually costs about 4 cents an hour to run compared to an oven which costs around 60 cents an hour to run. This adds up when the average time taken to make a fruit leather
