Juicer FAQs

Vitality 4 Life have put together some of your frequently asked questions about your juicer and juicing.

What is the difference between eating fruit and vegetables and juicing?

It takes on average 30 minutes to digest fruits and vegetables whereas juicing gives you an immediate burst of essential energy. Juicing takes the hard work out of digesting giving your body a rest, the juicer squeezes the juice out by using a pestle and mortar approach. The act of juicing helps to release the nutrition so we can more easily get the nutrients quickly. We do advise that you focus on juicing your vegetables and eating your fruit as they are easy to digest and easy to eat, the nutrients are released fairly quickly also the whole fruits help to cleanse your body and by juicing we lose the natural cleansing ability of the fruit, this will benefit our colon and kidneys.

Why cold press Juicers?

These machines operate by extracting juice by first crushing and then pressing fruit and vegetables for the highest juice yield. The slow rotation of the ultem auger means that the nutrients and enzymes are not disrupted or damaged during this process as no heat is introduced which eliminates oxidation and minimises foaming and separation of your juice. Meaning the precious enzymes are preserved to their closest natural form. Cold press juicers have the ability to juice not only fruits and vegetables but are superb at leafy greens, grasses, sprouts and herbs. The enzymes in the juice are kept alive so you have the ability to juice a large batch and store this for up to 72 hours with some of our juicers. Our cold press juicers also offer the ability to food process as well. Such as making nut butters and milks, frozen desserts, pastas, bread sticks and green juices.

How long does my juice last?

The juice extracted from a cold press juicer is 'Living Juice', retaining its nutritional integrity 48-72 hours after extraction. As long as the juice is in a sealed container you can juice a large batch and keep the left overs in your fridge for another day.

My Oscar juicer has a soft fruit problem?

There could be one of two reasons why you are having this problem, it could be possible that you've been juicing so much that your auger has worn down. Are the edges of the auger that rotate in the juicing strainer still sharp?
Alternatively, it could be the quality of the fruits and vegetables you are trying to juice compared to what you used initially; the Oscar works better with crisp granny smith apples as apposed to soft apples. We also recommend that you alternate between soft fruits with vegetables like carrots, silverbeet.
Certain fruits and vegetable are softer at different times of the year or season meaning the fruit could be too pulpy to juice. If this is the case you could switch the screen to the mincing strainer and make yummy frozen fruit desserts rather than juices.
Dr Norman Walker who introduced us to the cold pressed juicing movement believes that we should eat our fruit and juice our vegetables.
Large quantities of fruit juices can mean a significant increase in sugars which can affect the body's sensitive chemical balance. So we recommend that you use fruit in your juices to help make the juice more palatable.

With the newly designed patented 3 stage auger and patented silicone seal around the juicing screen, the new front end delivers a less pulpy juice, more yield and its much easier to clean.
